Synopsis

Our client in the insurance industry is looking to employ a Specialist Underwriter to provide specialist advice and support relating to underwriting, applying set rules to guard against risk, in alignment with related scheme and policy conditions, through the execution of predefined objectives as per agreed SOPs.

Description

Ideal candidate must have Life Insurance experience and this is non-negotiable

Candidate should be able to sign off cases of R9M and above

Must have strong financial underwriting skills to include personal and business insurance which is imperative in this role

Must also have demonstrated experience in complex underwriting

Process

  • Advise on and contribute to the development of procedures and processes within area of specialisation for continued quality and service improvement
  • Analyse and provide input on the risk profile of the applicants on the basis of medical history and other stipulated parameters
  • Apply relevant research methodologies, tools and techniques to effectively and purposely gather information
  • Conduct investigations in order to establish and verify facts to the lead to the identification and reduction of business risks
  • Draw on own technical knowledge and experience to identify and develop solutions to improve operational service and quality
  • Escalate unresolved delivery and quality issues to operational management and process owners
  • Provide specialist advice and support in area of accountability to ensure that identified solutions and recommendations are appropriate and effective
  • Understand and apply existing best practice frameworks to assist in the implementation of identified subject matter processes and standards

  • Contribute to a TCF service excellence culture, which builds positive relationships and provides opportunity for feedback and exceptional service

  • Adhere to specified policies, standards and procedures to prevent and reduce wastage of financial resources and escalate associated risks

  • Interact proactively with others for the purpose of continuous knowledge sharing and integration of own new knowledge

Bachelor’s degree

Experience

Minimum of 5 years’ Underwriting Life Insurance experience
