Synopsis

A financial services provider is seeking to employ a Senior Specialist Financial Accountant who will provide comprehensive financial and decision support to the function through a wide variety of financially focused work to directly increase profitability and contribute effectively to business decisions.

Description

  • The primary areas of responsibility will be for the financial reporting, forecasting and budgeting, expense and team management with a significant amount of ad hoc analysis, ensuring compliance with internal controls
  • Monitoring and interpreting cash flows and predicting future trends
  • Analysing change and advising accordingly
  • Formulating strategic and long-term business plans
  • Researching and reporting on factors influencing business performance
  • Analysing competitors and market trends
  • Developing financial management mechanisms that minimize financial risk
  • Conducting reviews and evaluations for cost-reduction opportunities
  • Managing the company's financial accounting, monitoring and reporting systems
  • Developing external relationships with appropriate contacts e.g. auditors, solicitors, bankers and statutory organisations
  • Producing accurate financial reports to specific deadlines
  • Managing budgets
  • Keeping abreast of changes in financial regulations and legislation
  • Providing and interpreting financial information
  • Team management to meet finance department's objectives
  • Managing multiple stakeholders

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

  • CA (SA) non-negotiable
  • 3 to 5 years post articles experience which would include managing a team
  • At least 5 years relevant experience in an insurance environment with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory / management role
  • Experience in change management would be advantageous

 

Requirements and Skills

  • Knowledge of financial accounting principles, classifying, measuring and recording transactions
  • Awareness of costing, budgeting and finance concepts and the understanding and application of related processes and procedures with relation to a functional role within the organisation
  • Ability to compile and manages budgets, controls cash flow, institutes ERM and administers tender procurement processes
  • Ability to prepare accurate reports to satisfy risk reporting requirements, with relevant interpretation of analyses for business users
  • Solid understanding of HR / IR principles and performance management practices
