Our client, a financial services organisation has an exciting opportunity for an individual who is analytical, has problem-solving skills as well as sound business and finance knowledge. The primary purpose of this role is to take ownership of the reserving and capital numbers and delivering these whiles being conscious of the organisation’s strategy, targets and objectives.


  • Contribute proactively to the management and implementation of the organisation's project strategy.
  • Recommend and implement solutions which will aid in exceeding the organisation’ targets and objectives.
  • Make recommendations about improvements and opportunities relating to reserving and capital.
  • Advise management on the selection of reserving assumptions and methodologies.
  • Work with stakeholders to make efficient use of capital in line with relevant regulations and accounting standards.
  • Liaise closely with internal and external stakeholders to maximise value to the business.
  • Provide information to stakeholders on related Key Performance Indicators, including reserving (by peril), regulatory capital and economic capital.
  • Ensure compliance with Solvency, Assessment and Management framework.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant actuarial standards.
  • Assist with IFRS17 implementations and thereafter provide ongoing guidance and ensure compliance.
  • Develop and maintain tools and models and ensure enhancement of current engines using statistical modelling techniques and this includes managing and applying specialised software.
  • Manage claims reserves held at a group level as well as delivery and analysis of capital calculations and requirements.
  • Enhance reporting and the automation thereof.
  • Provide ongoing related analytics as required and identify operational interventions.
  • Reporting to produce financials on reserving numbers and provide other numeric and advisory input to budgeting (and strategy) calculations and processes.
  • Advise on more general projects in quantitative and analytic modelling space.
  • Analyse vast amounts of customer and product level data.
  • Consider the operating and economic environment as well as the vertical integration across the organisation.
  • Maintain knowledge and stay abreast of developments in the industry and regulatory environment.
  • Ensure an understanding of the organisation and technical problems as they relate to the current and future business environments.
  • Ensure high level understanding of the organisation's business systems and industry requirements.


  • Relevant Degree (Actuarial Science, Mathematical Statistics or Quantitative Risk Management).
  • Must have at least 3 to 5 years’ related experience (short term insurance).
  • A strong background in mathematics and statistics.
  • Knowledge of the Solvency, Assessment and Management framework as well as relevant actuarial standards.
