Our client, a reputable insurance organisation is currently seeking an individual to assume the role of Senior Legal Adviser. The successful incumbent will be responsible for assisting the organisation with the development and functioning of the organisation within legally satisfactory parameters.


  • Provide appropriate, proactive legal advice and legal interpretation.
  • Identify, evaluate and advise on potential current or future legal risks.
  • Draft and review contracts to ensure that the contracts entered into by the organisation are effectively drafted, reviewed, interpreted, and vetted.
  • Review and sign off policy documents as requested by the organisation.
  • Provide legal opinion on all matters as instructed by the organisation to ensure that the organisation’ interests are protected.
  • Acts as a sounding board for legal advisors and ensures best practice (professional ethics).
  • Conduct strategic reporting on the organisation’ relevant issues such as litigation management, with the purpose of identifying trends in order to mitigate and prevent future risks.
  • Develop, manage and deliver on Service Level Agreements with internal business partners.
  • Research and analyse the implications of case law, legislations and regulatory matters that affect the company.
  • Provide the organisation with regular information regarding new legal developments (which include new Bills, Acts, Regulations, Directives and Case Law) as well as related industry information in the form of a Company Legal Update.
  • Manage translation of legislative and regulatory issues and the impact of new legislation on the organisation.
  • Contribute towards Legislative and Regulatory matters to ensure that communication covers impacted functional areas or organisation units.
  • Represent the organisation at SAIA and ASISA meeting, by request.


  • Bachelor of Law Degree (LLB).
  • Must be an admitted Attorney of the High Court.
  • CFP would be preferred (post graduate diploma in financial planning).
  • Must gave at least 5 to 10 years of experience as legal advisor in the Insurance Industry.
  • Experience Ligation management and Insurance Law Department.
  • Knowledge of Insurance Legislation and Regulations including CISCA, Short-term insurance Act, Long-term.
  • Insurance Act, Pension Funds Act, FAIS knowledge would be beneficial.
  • General knowledge of the financial services and insurance industry.
  • Knowledge ASISA and SAIA Standards would be advantageous.
