A reputable organisation in the financial and services industry is currently seeking an individual to assume the role of Senior Manager: Exchange Control Advisory. The successful incumbent will be responsible for facilitating the approval of complex exchange control applications that meet the rules, regulations and directives as set by the SARB to ensure operational and market risks are mitigated.


  • Meet regulatory requirements by providing input to and assisting stakeholders with the completion and motivation of exchange control applications.
  • Meet roles and responsibilities agreement by submitting applications to SARB within agreed timelines.
  • Meet term sheet schedules, roles and responsibilities agreement by providing feedback to relevant organisation units in terms of progress of applications.
  • Provide specialist advisory service to organisation units and its clients as well as rest of Africa subsidiaries through input, advice or specialised solutions on the structuring of complex transactions or deals impacted by exchange control rules, regulations and directives.
  • Lead the Advisory Team within the Exchange Control Department.
  • Understand and meet stakeholder's exchange control needs and requirements by building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders through regular engagements.
  • Manage and meet expectations of stakeholders by clarifying mandates and scope by providing advice or solutions on complex and specialist exchange control transactions.
  • Facilitate the approval of complex exchange control applications by providing input, guidance and solutions.
  • Provide regulatory authority on exchange control transactions to stakeholders to proceed with transactions or deals through specialist advice and offering appropriate solutions that are within the rules, regulations and directives set by SARB.
  • Review relevant exchange control applications, prepared by stakeholders, that fall outside the exchange control rules, through the assessment of accuracy and comprehensiveness for submission to SARB for approval.
  • Ensure the implementation of specialist conditions set by SARB for exchange control approvals that fall outside the rules, by monitoring and reporting on compliance of the organisation unit to lay down conditions and take corrective action, where necessary.
  • Submit an exchange control report by collating information related to internal and external exchange control transactions for record purposes.
  • Provide exchange control specialist input, advice and solutions pertaining to new products and ensure compliance to exchange control rules, regulations and directives by serving on relevant new product approval forums.
  • Ensure risks are mitigated and reported by managing exchange control risks in consultation with compliance and risk officers.
  • Act as conduit between monitoring function within Exchange Control department and Organisation Clusters by providing subject matter expertise.
  • Ensure non-residence transactions are recorded by providing subject matter expertise on the implementation of the cross-border reporting system.


  • Must have a BCom Law, Advanced Diplomas or National 1st Degrees.
  • Must have a minimum of 8 years’ experience in Exchange Control and foreign exchange experience, including 2 years management experience.
  • Ability to manage complex boardroom dynamics and exhibiting a strong boardroom presence.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with peers, subordinates, managers and clients would be an added advantage.
