A leading sustainable technologies organisation is currently seeking an individual to assume the role of Automation Engineer. The successful incumbent will be responsible for ensuring plant optimisation and maximum plant availability by developing, implementing and maintaining the plant control systems (PLC/SCADA/SERVERS) as well as meet automation business service level agreements.


  • Proactively support the development of a positive health and safety culture across the organisation and to comply with the group and statutory EHS requirements and strive to exceed these where appropriate.
  • Ensure effective projects delivery through planning, management and implementation ensuring all change management procedures are followed and documentations are completed by the due dates.
  • Provide the highest quality Automation PLC/SCADA solutions by conforming to the organisations, S95, S88 and PackML modelling and implementation standards.
  • Define control system architecture’s and standards for project FDS’s, FAT, SAT, contractor’s and subcontract’s activities, engineering preparation and delivering for SCADA, HMI and PLC control logic.
  • Participate in technical audits, PandID reviews and HAZOP’s.
  • Promote the application of new technologies and design or implementation methodologies.
  • Ensure that PLC, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition software is always functional and protected as far as possible against corruption and virus attacks in conjunction with IT.
  • Support the activities of the Automation Engineers and Automation Technicians through the provision of direct development, training and mentoring.
  • Provide standby and call-out support when required.
  • Adhere to 5S procedures within the Automation Team.
  • Assist the Automation team in meeting the department’s KPI’s.
  • Carry out any other duties which are within the employee’s skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.


  • B-Tech (Electrical Engineering) or S4.
  • Technical background with at least National Diploma (N6) in programming or related qualifications.
  • 5 Years practical experience in automation where PLC or SCADA.
  • 5 Years hands on experience on Wonderware or Rockwell solution development, coding and commissioning.
  • Competence in reading / interpreting PandID’s, PFD’s (Process Flow Diagrams), Interlock Schedules and the ability to write a Functional Design Specification.
  • PID control, and configuring and optimising of loops.
  • Sound knowledge of Plant process control would be an added advantage.
  • Good knowledge on Profibus, DeviceNet, ASI, ControlNet and IP Ethernet networks.
  • Capability to ensure that all instrumentation complies with the requirements of the OSHAct and ISO 9002.
  • Specialisation in Rockwell Automation and Wonderware Industrial Application Server.
