Synopsis

A leading Food Manufacturing Organisation is currently seeking an individual to assume the role of General Manager. The successful incumbent will be responsible for the Feed-mill Business Unit and managing all financial, people and material resources in order to to ensure that goods are produced efficiently and within budget, whilst attaining profit margins and targets set out by the organisation.

Description

  • Ensure work place safety and effective communication of Safety, Health and Environment to all team members.
  • Ensure appropriate application of local, CODEX and country specific regulations concerning feed/food and related items (packaging).
  • Ensure full alignment with local environmental regulations and corporate initiatives.
  • Ensure the achievement of plant objectives and monitor cost of production to identify adverse variations.
  • Ensure that manufacturing instructions are understood and applied in a consistent manner to guarantee product safety and process repeatability.
  • Ensure despatches as per agreed plan and customer specifications.
  • Monitor operational performance by using available tools / systems in order to improve productivity.
  • Ensure that operational standards are developed, reported and understood at all levels.
  • Manage the overall plant capacity viz. manufacturing, filling-packing, utilities and appropriately de-bottleneck activities aligned with high capacity utilisation and the business strategy.
  • Make sure that quality biosecurity management systems are in place and adhered to.
  • Ensure legal compliance to quality and biosecurity regulations.
  • Ensure systematic continuous improvement program in order to drive operational performance and quality.
  • Ensure that employees work as in a network on or outside the production floor.
  • Build active network across hierarchy and functional disciplines with partner factories to share developed best practices.
  • Manage location wide improvement by cascading and communicating objectives and create a sense of ownership by all the employees.
  • Ensure appropriate understanding and use of business contingency and crisis management plans.
  • Be proactively involved with supply chain, finance and purchase to track, control and improve cost of working capital.
  • Ensure two-way communication and information sharing, including major changes with employees for improving factory operations.
  • Develop a spirit of partnership on the basis of mutual trust for building and maintaining employee relations.
  • Effectively delegate decision making process to the next level / teams without loss of accountability for greater empowerment.
  • Systematically discuss details of execution strategy and inspire people to tenaciously follow through, with measuring, making data transparent and ensuring accountability.

Requirements

  • Relevant Tertiary degree preferably a post graduate qualification.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ manufacturing environment.
  • 5 years’ experience at a relevant manufacturing plant (feedmill or abattoir).
  • 5 years’ experience as a manager.
  • Preferably a Bcom degree in Business Management or related field.
  • Computer literacy, must proficiency in Microsoft Office applications Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Adequate knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation and human resources).
