A prominent multinational investment firm is currently seeking an individual to assume the role of Equities Operations Manager. The successful incumbent will be responsible for defining and managing the firm’s operating model, technological requirements and business processes needed to facilitate new business whilst maintaining a robust control environment.


  • Manage the operations team providing effective day to day support to the sales/trading desk on trade bookings, position management and risk reporting.
  • Manage the securities settlement function including oversight of the stock borrow lending process as well as the Euroclear securities settlement process.
  • Ensure that a well-controlled and efficient operating model that includes the performance of all relevant control reconciliations including stock/cash positions and FOBO reconciliations.
  • Ensure accurate funding positions and efficient use of the LE’s capital.
  • Liaise with sales/traders, clients, custodian and internal colleagues and teams to ensure timely and accurate processing and settlement of all transactions.
  • Ensure compliance with all local and applicable international rules and regulations and aligning these to internal policies and procedures.
  • Ensure resolution of all daily tasks as well as any extraordinary issues that arise.
  • Manage the client CSA process.
  • Manage the development and training of personnel.
  • Project management.
  • Meet all MIS and reporting deadlines.
  • Ensure the implementation of new processes and systems.
  • Provide business support to other areas of the bank as necessary.
  • Ensure the maintenance of standard operating procedures.
  • Conduct reference data management.


  • Degree or equivalent preferred with strong relevant banking experience.
  • Cash equities operations experience, including institutional activity.
  • 7+ years relevant equity operations experience.
  • 5+ years management experience.
  • Strong logical and analytical skills.
  • Experience working on the implementation of new processes and systems.
  • Strong communication skills (external and internal clients).
  • Solid understanding of the South African equities market and conventions.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Ability to priorities and co-ordinate work flows effectively.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to partner and collaborate effectively with people across the various functional disciplines.
