Synopsis

A prominent video entertainment company is currently seeking an individual to assume the role of Data Scientist. The successful incumbent will be responsible for identifying opportunities to creatively use data to provide strategic and operational insights to the organisation.

Description

  • Implement corrective action on the analysed data and reports provided.
  • Follow the appropriate processes to ensure quick and correct action is taken in query resolution.
  • Identify new analytic trends / data needs and repeatable analytic solutions.
  • Work with data engineers on the data formulation process which may include identification of attributes, exploratory data analysis, data transformation and temporal layouts.
  • Work with key stakeholders to generate hypotheses and create analytic models that answer impactful business questions.

  • Conduct deep dives and prepare Executive level quality presentations.
  • Ensure that data discovery and innovation processes, identifying potential big-data driven solutions and initiatives.
  • Provide knowledge in the review of data sources, decoding data inconsistencies and provide business logic for initiating data discovery.
  • Identify new data sources and evaluate emerging technologies for data discovery usage.
  • Clean and convert raw data into formats that can be used by other tools.
  • Carry out quality assurance testing to ensure the models deliver insights accurately.
  • Implement data formulation process, including identification of attributes, exploratory data analysis, data transformation and temporal data structures.
  • Create analytical datasets from large data sources (multi-Terabyte/Hadoop) through the development of highly-efficient reusable code structures.
  • Perform hands-on text, quantitative, statistical, financial and operational analysis.
  • Apply best available practices for artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Requirements

  • Degree in Business and Quantitative field (Econometrics, Mathematics, Statistics, or Computer Science with emphasis in Statistics).
  • A minimum of 2-5 years of relevant data experience and experience building segmentation and propensity models.
  • Statistical, mathematical, predictive modelling, forecasting and business strategy skills.
  • Able to build the necessary algorithms to ask the right questions and find the right answers.
  • Able to communicate their findings, orally and visually.
  • Understand how the products are developed and the ethical responsibilities associated with big data and customer privacy implications.
  • Understand how to integrate multiple systems and data sets – need to be able to link and mash up distinctive data sets to discover new insights.
  • Able to program in different programming languages e.g. Python, R, Java, Ruby, Clojure, Matlab, Pig or SQL.
  • Understand Hadoop, Hive and/or MapReduce.
  • Experience with Machine Learning and AI is an added advantage.
  • Proficiency working with visualisation tools e.g. R Shiny, Tableau etc.
