Synopsis

A leading video entertainment organisation is currently seeking an individual to assume the role of Data Scientist Manager. The successful incumbent will be responsible for developing and deploying advanced analytics to support marketing teams in exploring new segmentation opportunities and effectively measure the value of the organisation’s digital initiatives.

Description

  • Tell the story, communicate insights and recommendations to business partners and leaders.
  • Prioritise work across your team to support broader business initiatives.
  • Establish roadmaps to improve scalability of data pipelines and modelling infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with product teams to deliver solutions that enhance the customer experience and improve efficiency of user acquisition.
  • Optimise matching systems that connect users across the digital landscape.
  • Own pro-search algorithms and natural language processing classifiers.
  • Provide hands-on technical guidance to data scientists and analysts to encourage technical growth and ensure proper application of standard methodologies.
  • Be responsible for the performance of data science products with a keen understanding of the levers to provide increased value.
  • Assist with administration and support requests.
  • Test various developed web sites for correct code implementation and advise developers on improvements.
  • Coordinate tags and track parameter implementations within the department.
  • Use and advocate the use of web standards and all modern web technologies.
  • Understand and translate business users needs to technical requirements for implementation.
  • Manage campaign projects from onset to completion, analyse and determine KPI's / success metrics.
  • Work with vendors to implement campaigns and coordinate website tagging projects.
  • Utilise research and analytical tools to properly optimise campaigns / projects.
  • Identifying key needs or gaps and provide recommendations to close those gaps.
  • Gather analytics requirements from various stakeholders for digital initiatives.
  • Design optimal solutions for digital data collection using industry best practices and organisation governance philosophies.
  • Determine and analyse development needs for the team and ensure that identified training requirements are budgeted for and executed.
  • Interview and recruit new members of the team, including determining appropriate compensation levels with input from Human Resources.
  • Create effective workforce and recruitment demand plans to ensure that current and future business requirements can be met.
  • When required, initiate disciplinary processes for team members calling on support from Human Resources when required.
  • Provide specialised and technical support to internal and external stakeholders to ensure achievement of functional and organisational objectives.
  • Establish and monitor healthy, diverse internal and external relations and implement remedial actions where required, in the achievement of organisational goals.
  • Develop strong working relationships with all touch points across the data life-cycle.
  • Effectively manage function and its objectives in line with approved budgets, report variances as required and recommend / implement remedial action within span of control.
  • Review and authorise payments in line with approved budget and policy and submit for final processing.
  • Conduct realistic forecasting of sales and volume for the area ensuring all parts of the company are geared accordingly.

Requirements

  • Degree in Economics, Math, Statistics, Computer Science, or other quantitative discipline.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or related Master’s degree, MBA preferred.
  • BSc in Computer Science, Math, Physics, Engineering, Statistics or other quantitative or computational field.
  • 5-8 years’ experience in Web Analytics tools required (i.e. Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics).
  • Experience developing model and non-model-based segmentation and targeting.
  • Experience in big data, machine learning, and data mining.
  • Proficiency in SQL, R and Python.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of campaign launch 'checklist' – tracking pixels, URL tagging, creative assets collection, and campaign collaboration.
  • Ability to process clean data - transformations and categorical variable coding.
  • Strong understanding of Google Analytics.
