A leading Hotel and Casino organisation is currently seeking an individual to assume the role of DevOps Engineer. The successful incumbent will be responsible for collaborating with software developers, system operators and the broader IT team to systematically and methodically plan, deploy, maintain and integrate business applications and platform environments.


  • Build automated deployments through the use of configuration management technology.
  • Deploy new modules and upgrades.
  • Complete testing and fixes within the production environment.
  • Make modules ready for production, which entails moving them according to specific procedures and documenting knowledge transfer.
  • Complete programming using languages and software products.
  • Integrate applications by designing database architecture and server scripting; studying and establishing connectivity with network systems, search engines and information servers.
  • Recommend system solutions by comparing advantages and disadvantages of custom development and purchase alternatives.
  • Lead IT projects teams, provide guidance and improve skills on a functional level to ensure delivery to objectives.
  • Monitor and control solution delivery and the team’s performance against plan throughout the project life cycle including working and conducting quality control on vendor deliverables.
  • Be prepared and able to take over code maintenance.
  • Set up electronic files to ensure that all information is appropriately documented and secured.
  • Drive delivery, trouble shoot and support the IT development team by providing insights on leading practice, trends, barriers, risks and opportunities that may impact the business.
  • Identify recurring issues and work with IT and business partners to identify opportunities and gaps in system and resolves technical issues through debugging, research and investigation to achieve resolution and maintain system performance.
  • Facilitate the building and configuration of web infrastructure.
  • Drive improvements to processes and design enhancements to automation to continuously improve the production environment.
  • Enforce standards and consistencies; ensuring that there are no broken links, missing images, orphaned pages.
  • Review the interfaces tracking dashboards and reports in order to resolve any data issues timeously.
  • Develop and test new dashboards and reporting tools to elicit data from the various platforms including reporting on JIRA, Bitbucket.
  • Contract deliverables and negotiate costings including pricing negotiations.
  • Provide guidance to software development contractors on departments objectives, standards and operating procedures in order to ensure correct products and quality are achieved in line with contracted deliverables and timeframes.
  • Address any non-conformance issues.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Engineering, Electronics engineering, Maths or a STEM field.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience with proven experience and success in Linux/Unix Administration, SQL and MySQL are important as well as a working understanding of code and script.
  • Experience with automation / configuration management with a proven ability to use a wide variety of technologies, tools and cloud services.
  • Knowledge of server configuration webserver and application.
  • Knowledge of DevOps leading practice and IT operations.
  • Application and Software development knowledge.
  • Technical writing and coding experience.
  • Proficient in Docker, Kubernetes, Bitbucket, Salt, Jenkins, Chef, Puppet or equivalent scripting language.
  • Must have an understanding of testing methodologies and practices.
