Our client, a leading financial services provider, is seeking an Executive Head Specialising in ethics and EGC strategy and operations with 10 years’ experience at a senior level and in-depth experience in strategy, operations and ethics. The successful incumbent will deliver key insights in supporting strategic decision making that have an impact across the division and organisation.


  • Deliver an integrated EGC Strategy by formulating the strategic plan and framework and ensuring this is successfully communicated and implanted
  • Support the Chief Governance and Compliance Officer by focusing on the establishment and optimisation of day-to-day operations
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of the Corporate Accountability and Ethics framework across the Group
  • Coordinate cluster reporting, including board, executive operation meeting and other stakeholder reports, e.g. to the South African Reserve Bank and the Financial Intelligence Centre)
  • Set strategy and recommending the policy framework for the appointment and implementation of ethics officers within the group
  • Ensure monitoring and assessing of the Ethics Framework to determine whether it is successful in establishing ethical norms and is managed effectively
  • Provide advice to stakeholders on ethics risk requirements by giving input for policy formulation and performance measurement (e.g. ethics modifier) of Group Executive Committee members
  • Provide input and advice to stakeholders through assessment of non-adherence to good governance costs (e.g. cost of misconduct) by utilising professional knowledge on ethics, corporate accountability and human rights requirements
  • Engaging with external stakeholders, e.g. the National Business Initiative (NBI), Business Unity South Africa (BUSA), United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and Ethics SA and reviewing requirements in line with the company’s function
  • Effectively take action on information related to ethics, corporate accountability and human rights received from internal and external stakeholders through thorough communication and effective feedback
  • Set the group ethics process and practice strategy and ensuring alignment with best practice
  • Ensure the design, implementation and management of a groupwide ethics awareness initiative and communication programme
  • Ensure compliance with international and local standards in line with King IV and King III and maintaining a quality assurance programme to confirm adherence to these standards
  • Assess applicable processes, systems and policies where the Code of Ethics is applicable and ensure compliance to the code
  • Ensure applicable Ethics polices, processes, and systems are aligned with and in support of the Code of Conduct
  • Manage the production of the group’s ethics update / feedback reports and defining the necessary circulation avenues
  • Provide the necessary strategic support throughout the cluster and actively managing the cluster’s strategic objectives


  • Postgraduate B-degree: Charted Accountancy and / or Law
  • 10 years’ senior management exposure to and experience in strategy, operations and ethics
  • 8 to 10 years’ people management experience at a senior and executive level
  • Successful track record in providing a high degree of accountability and value-added support at senior and executive levels
  • Significant finance and / or legal and / or internal control experience in the banking and financial services sector
