Synopsis

The individual will be responsible for assisting the business unit in managing its responsibility to comply with all regulatory items and minimise compliance risks through effective monitoring of regulatory requirements.

Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform Compliance and Risk management through effective implementation of the Group’s compliance management system
  • Identifying, interpreting and prioritising key requirements and compliance risks, with the key focus on the compliance requirements for FAIS and its subordinate legislation
  • Implementation of Group Compliance methodology and processes within the business unit
  • Compiling risk management plans for specific and new regulatory requirements
  • Adequacy and effectiveness evaluations and continuous analysis of processes and identification of improvements required
  • Monitoring and assessment of adherence to regulatory requirements and reporting on areas of non-compliance
  • Driving resolution of compliance findings
  • Keeping abreast of new regulations and developments in the industry and interpreting and analysing the potential impact on the business and ensuring compliance to new legislation
  • Pro-active response to legal and regulatory amendments, updates and developments
  • General compliance support to the business unit
  • Compliance advice and opinions (verbal and in writing), which are accurate, timeous and pragmatic
  • Conducting compliance awareness and training
  • Elicit opportunities between the regulatory framework and commercial risk appetite of the business unit

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications and Knowledge 

  • Hold an appropriate qualification which will render the incumbent eligible to be approved as a FAIS compliance officer by the Registrar of Financial Service Providers 
  • Preferred Grade 12 and relevant degree (LLB or similar) and Admission as an attorney
  • Must comply with all honesty, integrity and financial soundness requirements which are prescribed in Section 3(1) of Board Notice 127 of 2010
  • 3-5 years experience in a professional compliance environment within the financial services industry
  • Member of CISA
  • Specialist and detailed working knowledge of FAIS
  • Experience in the employee benefits industry
  • Financial services regulatory environment (exposure to the Pension Funds Act, Long Term Insurance Act, FAIS, AML legislation)
  • Legislative knowledge
  • Risk management knowledge
  • Knowledge of business procedures, rules, processes
